Organic Gardening vs. Apartment Gardening

Staying with nature becomes the buzz of the day. Indoor garden becomes a great option in this instance. Growing an indoor herb garden gives the scope to enjoy at any time of the day no matter whatever the climatic conditions are. So before planting a brief study of the desired plants is required along with the amount of light they need. The following tips are essential: during summer time keep the plants out in sunlight to boost them up, rotate the plant after keeping it under light for a healthy growth, if indoor herb garden is not getting enough light then the leaves will grow small and lighter in color than the normal, with thin stems, use artificial lights with a fluorescent lamp if house has limited lights, condition plants because the place from where it is bought will have more light.

Organic gardening means not using synthetic products, including pesticides and fertilizers. Ideally, organic gardening replenishes the resources as it makes use of them. Like feeding depleted soil with composted plants, or planting legumes to add nitrogen to an area that had been planted with heavy feeder. The bigger picture involves working in cooperation with nature, viewing garden as a small part of all the natural system. One of the basic tenants of organic gardening is to feed the soil and the soil will feed the plants. Plants get water, air and nutrients from the soil. Clay soil is higher in nutrients than sand and hold water better. Sometimes it holds water too well and the plants can’t get enough air. Sandy soil is well drained, but can use some amending to make it great garden soil. This is where organic matter comes into play. Adding organic matter improves any soil’s texture as well as attracting soil organisms that create nutrients in the soil.

If living in an apartment, there might be the fact that there is no yard or space for the relaxing and enjoyable process to grow food. However, it takes less space to grow plants and even a small apartment can benefit from the advantages of a few vegetables or fruit pots. Of course, since space is at a premium in an apartment it can be difficult to know where to put the garden. A balcony or small patio is of course the obvious choice if you have them, but even apartments without an outdoor area can successfully grow a few plants. Just look for shade-loving varieties of fruits, vegetables, and flowers for best indoor results. If there is a windowsill that gets a good amount of sunlight you have a perfect location for apartment gardening in various containers.
